![]() Going on 2 years ago, I built a 16x16' floating deck with full railing using the floating concept. Anyone have any experience using these, it would be great to hear. We have not done any real research on this yet but it seems to be a great idea and perhaps cheaper? I think the labour is considerably less if nothing else. We have not decided whether to do this or if we should go with the Techno Post type of support. My Son needs a deck now and it is only 12 inches off the ground and we are considering dong the same thing. ![]() I also suspect that you need to wait for a few years. I do not know what the frostline requirements are in Edmonton (I lived there for 9 years and could have sworn there was permafrost LOL). The gravel allowed me to level the stones. I also put about 6 inches of gravel on top of landscape fabric and the patio stones on top. ![]() I used deck blocks on 24X24 inch patio stones. Mind you, it was added to an older house and the ground was quite stable. I built it 10 years ago and it is still level and in fine shape. I have a 24 X 12 ft single level deck 3 feet above ground and "floating", not attached to the house. ![]()
